The Verge reported that the public rollout of GPT-5.6 received a greenlight from the Trump administration, following a prior "limited preview" period for government-approved organizations.

Alongside the GPT-5.6 models, OpenAI also launched ChatGPT Work, a new tool designed as a workplace companion for enterprise teams. OpenAI states that ChatGPT Work is available on desktop, web, and mobile platforms. OpenAI highlights GPT-5.6 as its "strongest cybersecurity model yet," supporting defensive activities like threat modeling and code review. The company also positions its new models against competitors, citing the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index to claim that Sol outperforms Anthropic's Fable 5 in coding tasks, using less than half the output tokens, taking less time, and costing less. Availability for the new models is across ChatGPT, Codex, and the OpenAI API, with specific pricing per million tokens for Sol, Terra, and Luna.
