OpenAI Expands Daybreak, Launches New Cyber Model

OpenAI has expanded its Daybreak cybersecurity defense program, which now includes a new cyber-trained AI model. This expansion comes as AI-led attacks are reportedly multiplying and artificial intelligence models are becoming targets for attackers. Daybreak offers access to models, tools, and workflows for defenders.
The expanded Daybreak program will now feature two tiers: Blue and Red. Both tiers provide approved customers with access to OpenAI’s limited-access frontier cyber models. The Blue tier offers services such as incident response, malware analysis, and patch validation, and is described as a recommended starting point for most defenders. The Red tier provides a broader toolkit, including purpose-trained cybersecurity models designed for security testing and vulnerability research. The new model, GPT-5.6-Cyber, is available with the Red tier and is built off GPT-5.6 Sol, offering enhanced capabilities for specialized cybersecurity tasks. GPT-5.6-Cyber is currently available to trusted customer partners.
This initiative by OpenAI aims to address the evolving threats from AI agents, with the company stating that threat actors will increasingly use AI for cyberattacks at unprecedented speed and scale. The expansion of Daybreak and the introduction of GPT-5.6-Cyber are positioned as ways for defenders to prepare for these growing challenges.
