Anthropic Launches Claude Fable, Mythos 5.1 AI Models

Anthropic has launched its new AI models, Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1. These releases aim to address customer criticisms regarding price, data retention, and safeguards, with Fable 5.1 offering stronger performance than its predecessor, Fable 5, and typically costing around 25 percent less. The company claims Fable 5.1 is up to 45 percent cheaper for agentic work and includes changes to reduce token cost and false-positive restrictions from its safeguards.
Mythos 5.1 will be exclusively available to registered Anthropic partners engaged in cybersecurity or life sciences research, while Fable 5.1 is broadly available on cloud platforms or via the Anthropic API. A significant change is Anthropic's embrace of zero data retention, allowing clients to run models on their own infrastructure without data outflows. Additionally, a high-privacy service called Enterprise Frontier Safeguards will roll out to users in the fall, allowing clients to control monitoring for misuse.
The new models have set records in benchmarks such as Terminal-Bench 4.0 for CLI-based coding and Humanity’s Last Exam for general reasoning. Anthropic also released three novel scientific findings generated by the models, including a custom GPU optimization and a high-resolution map of Venus. The system card rates Mythos as “low-risk” for concerns related to automated AI development, noting its ability to accelerate internal AI R&D progress is in line with current trends.
This launch is significant for businesses as it offers more powerful AI models at a reduced cost, potentially lowering operational expenses for AI-driven tasks. The zero data retention policy and new privacy safeguards address key concerns for enterprises, enabling more secure and compliant AI integration into their operations.
