Anthropic Launches Cheaper, Less Restrictive Claude Opus 5 AI

Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 5, its newest AI model, which is described as cheaper and less restrictive than its predecessor, Fable. Opus 5 is intended for use in coding, agents, and enterprise workflows. The company stated that Opus 5 comes close to Fable 5's capabilities and is half the price of its Fable sibling. Snowflake also announced the availability of Anthropic Claude Opus 5 on Snowflake Cortex AI.
Opus 5 is designed to be preferable in most use cases due to its lower cost and fewer restrictions compared to Fable. It also reportedly outperforms Fable 5 on several benchmarks. This release follows Anthropic's Opus 4.8, which became available two months prior, and the launches of Mythos 5, Fable 5, and Sonnet 5 in June.
The new model is expected to be less disruptive, with safeguards engaging 85% less often than with Fable 5. Anthropic is also introducing a beta feature called Automatic Fallbacks, which will route requests to a less powerful model if a prompt triggers a safety classifier, providing a functional response instead of an error message.
This launch offers businesses a potentially more cost-effective and versatile AI solution for various applications. The reduced restrictions and new fallback feature could streamline integration and improve user experience for enterprise workflows.
