Meta Open-Sources Muse AI for Gadget Development
Meta has open-sourced code for Muse AI, allowing users to create their own AI-powered gadgets.
"Meta's giving away the keys to its AI kingdom. Get ready for Muse in everything from your toaster to your TV. Time to get creative!"
Meta has open-sourced the code for its Muse AI agent, enabling individuals to develop their own AI-infused gadgets. The company provides open-source firmware and a Linux software development kit (SDK) to facilitate this. Meta suggests projects such as integrating Muse with a color E Ink display for reminders or loading it onto an HDMI stick for display on larger screens. The initiative aims to allow users to connect Muse to various components like displays, buttons, sensors, and actuators.
Meta itself has utilized this code, building a gadget called Muse Home Link. This USB-C-powered device allows Muse to connect to a home network and interact with smart devices, including speakers and smart TVs. Meta produced 5,000 Muse Home Links and is distributing them for free to Muse subscribers while supplies last. The company has also established a Discord channel to support users in their development efforts.
This open-sourcing effort is part of Meta's broader strategy to expand Muse beyond a standalone chatbot. Meta is also targeting small businesses and enterprises, having recently introduced Muse for Small Business, which offers free usage with limits and integrates with tools like Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack. Additionally, Meta launched a new business unit, Meta Enterprise Platform, to further its AI offerings to corporate clients.
This move by Meta could foster innovation in AI-powered hardware, potentially leading to new product categories and integrations. Businesses might explore custom AI solutions for internal operations or customer engagement, leveraging the open-source nature of Muse to tailor experiences.
