Insta's take

"LinkedIn's new 'AI slop' button is a game-changer. Time to ditch the AI-generated fluff and get real, or risk getting flagged."

LinkedIn is implementing new measures to address low-quality AI-generated content on its platform, including a new reporting option labeled "seems like AI slop." This feature allows users to flag posts they believe were written with AI, reflecting a broader effort to reduce inauthentic content. The company is also replacing its own AI writing feature with a proofreading tool.

According to Hari Srinivasan, LinkedIn's chief product officer, "AI slop is a top priority for all of us." The company is investing in automation defenses, blocking "hundreds of thousands" of automated comment attempts daily and millions of other automation attempts in recent months. New classifiers are also being introduced to identify AI slop and other low-quality content, which will reduce its appearance in suggested content recommendations.

Additionally, LinkedIn will privately flag in users’ dashboards when their content is perceived as inauthentic due to heavy AI use. This aims to help users improve their writing. The company is also expanding access to profile and page verification tools and adding an option to block comments from company pages.

Why Insta thinks this matters

This update from LinkedIn impacts how businesses and professionals engage on the platform, emphasizing authentic content over AI-generated material. Marketers and content creators need to adapt strategies to avoid being flagged as 'AI slop,' ensuring their posts are perceived as genuine and valuable. This move could lead to a higher quality of professional discourse and networking opportunities.
