Google Allows Removal of Visible AI Watermarks
Google now allows users to remove visible watermarks from AI-generated media.

Google announced that users can now remove visible watermarks from AI-generated images, videos, and music. This new option is available in Gemini and Google's AI video generator, Flow, with future support planned for Search. The company clarified that turning off visible watermarks will not affect invisible SynthID watermarks or C2PA standard-related metadata, which are still used for identifying AI-generated content.
Josh Woodward, Google’s VP for Gemini, stated that this toggle will be available for Nano Banana, Omni, and Lyria models. The setting, found under Settings > Media Watermark, is rolling out in the coming days. Google is also open-sourcing Credentio, a new library for developers to embed local validation mechanisms in their applications.
This change reflects Google's effort to balance creative control with safety, acknowledging that visible watermarks can hinder professional and creative work. While visible watermarks are now optional, the continued use of invisible watermarks and metadata aims to maintain transparency regarding AI-generated media.
