Flourish Raises $500M to Build Brain-Powered 20-Watt AI
Flourish Inc. closed a $500M round at $2.5B valuation to build ultra-efficient brain-inspired Cortex AI.

New York-based Flourish Inc. has raised $500 million at a $2.5 billion valuation to develop Cortex AI, an artificial intelligence architecture modeled on the structure of the human brain. The round closed around June 4, 2026, with Jeff Bezos contributing approximately $100 million — nearly double his initial $50 million commitment. Alphabet's GV, Lux Capital, and healthcare-focused Catalio also participated.
Flourishwas co-founded by Thomas Reardon, who built Internet Explorer at Microsoft and sold brain-computer interface company CTRL-Labs to Meta in 2019, alongside Rob Williams, a former Amazon S-team executive. The company is using connectomics — the mapping of neural connections — to design AI systems that target an energy footprint of just 20 to 50 watts. For comparison, a single server-grade GPU consumes more than 30 times that amount. Funding will build an in-house neuroscience lab equipped with high-resolution electron microscopes focused on cortical columns.
Flourishhas no commercial product yet and competes in an increasingly crowded AI chip and inference space alongside Groq, Cerebras, and Etched. If its efficiency claims hold, Cortex AI could fundamentally reshape the economics of running AI at scale.
Energy costs are one of the biggest barriers to deploying AI at scale — 20-watt inference would dramatically cut infrastructure spend. Enterprises evaluating AI total cost of ownership should watch this space closely. Bezos-backed credibility and a $2.5B valuation signal serious long-term intent, even without a shipping product.
