Sarvam AI Achieves Unicorn Status with $234M Funding

Sarvam AI secured $234 million in Series B funding, becoming India's newest AI unicorn.

Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI has reached a $1.5 billion valuation after raising $234 million in Series B funding. HCLTech, an Indian IT services company, led the round with a $150 million investment and acquired a 10.46% stake in the startup. Other participants included Bessemer Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures, and Peak XV Partners. Sarvam AI aims to raise a total of $300 million for this Series B round.

This funding follows Sarvam AI's previous seed and Series A rounds, which totaled $41 million. The company launched open-source models earlier this year. Sarvam AI focuses on building a full-stack AI business, including model development, inference infrastructure, and enterprise applications, with models designed for Indian languages and use cases. Their products are deployed across sectors like banking, insurance, government services, and defense.

With this investment, Sarvam AI plans to fund research into next-generation AI models for agentic, coding, and cybersecurity applications, and expand access to computing infrastructure. The company's conversational AI platform handles over 2 million interactions daily, its inference platform processes approximately 10 million API calls daily, and its speech models transcribe more than 500,000 hours of audio each month. Its document AI systems digitize over 35 million pages of records.
