Anthropic has expanded its Claude Cowork AI agent to mobile and web platforms, allowing it to continue tasks even after a user closes their laptop. This development means the agent can run without an active desktop connection, addressing a previous limitation where the computer needed to be awake and the app open for tasks to proceed. Claude Cowork is now accessible via Anthropic's existing Claude smartphone app and web browser.
Previously, users could interact with Anthropic's agents on mobile devices through the Dispatch feature, which required pairing the smartphone app with a desktop. The new update removes the necessity for a continuous desktop session, enabling the AI agent to work across devices and handle tasks like gathering data from emails and Slack, generating reference documents, and drafting emails.
This move by Anthropic is part of a broader industry trend towards always-running, semi-autonomous AI agents. The company plans to roll out this revamped version of Cowork as a beta to subscribers of its Max plan, with features expected to become available to Pro tier members later.
