I've been using Mailchimp on and off since 2016, and here's the truth: it's still really good at being Mailchimp, which is both its strength and its problem. The platform that once revolutionized email marketing by making it accessible to everyone has become the establishment player—polished, reliable, but no longer particularly innovative, especially when it comes to the AI features it's now promoting.
Mailchimp is an excellent choice if you're just starting out or running a small business under 5,000 subscribers where simplicity matters more than advanced features. However, if you're growth-focused, have a technical bone in your body, or are genuinely shopping for AI-powered marketing assistance, you'll find better value and capabilities elsewhere—the 2024 email marketing landscape has largely caught up to and surpassed what made Mailchimp special five years ago.
