Twitch Streamers Can Opt Out of Amazon AI Training

Twitch now uses streamer content for Amazon AI training by default, sparking user backlash.

Twitch is now utilizing content from its streamers to train Amazon's generative AI models. This change has been met with significant criticism from the Twitch community, primarily because users are opted in by default, meaning their streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and channel text and pictures will be used unless they manually opt out. Twitch Chief Product Officer Mike Minton stated that an opt-in system would likely result in no participation.

The decision to make AI training an opt-out feature has led to user concerns about their content being used without their explicit knowledge. Twitch acknowledged the community's opposition to generative AI, with Minton admitting he didn't know if content had already been used for training. Users can opt out by navigating to their channel settings, selecting the security and privacy tab, and toggling off the "training for generative AI" option.

This move highlights a broader trend where platforms use public user content for AI training. Twitch's approach to announcing this change, framing it as adding an opt-out setting, caused some confusion among streamers regarding past content usage.
