OpenAI stated that “Patch the Planet” aims to reduce the burden on maintainers by having security engineers review findings, develop patches and tests, and build reusable workflows. This initiative addresses concerns about AI models' cybersecurity capabilities and the potential for AI to identify and exploit bugs. Wired reported that this launch coincides with an improved version of GPT-5.5-Cyber.
