Nothing Teases Screen-Free AI Device for December Launch
Nothing will launch a screen-free AI device next month, according to CEO Carl Pei.
"Nothing's dropping a screen-free AI gadget next month. No screen, no app – just pure AI. Get ready for something different!"
Nothing, the smartphone startup, is set to launch its first AI device in December. CEO Carl Pei announced the upcoming product on X, stating it will be an "AI-native" device. This follows Pei's earlier plans for "AI-native" devices and an AI operating system, announced over a year ago. The company has not provided specific details about the product beyond its screen-free nature.
Multiple outlets, including TechCrunch, The Verge, TechNode, Mezha, and The Indian Express, reported on the announcement. Pei indicated the device is designed to leverage AI for productivity gains. He also described it as a "tool" built with the company's characteristic personality and care, emphasizing that it is not an app.
While the exact nature of the device remains unclear, Pei's comments suggest it will be a distinct offering in the AI product landscape. The launch next month marks Nothing's entry into the AI device market, expanding beyond its smartphone offerings.
This launch signals Nothing's strategic move into the AI device market, potentially diversifying revenue streams beyond smartphones. For businesses, this could indicate a growing trend towards specialized, screen-free AI tools for productivity, influencing future product development and market demand.
