Midjourney Acquires Astrology App Co-Star
AI lab Midjourney has acquired the astrology app Co-Star, expanding its product lineup.
"Midjourney just bought an astrology app! From AI cats to cosmic charts, they're really trying new things. Wild move, Midjourney!"
Midjourney, an AI lab known for its image and video generation, has acquired the social astrology app Co-Star. This acquisition marks an expansion for Midjourney beyond its current focus. The deal terms for the acquisition were not disclosed.
Co-Star, a free app, is primarily used for astrological birth charts and social sharing. The app reportedly has approximately 4.3 million monthly active users. Co-Star utilizes both AI and human input to generate horoscopes, compatibility assessments, and other advice based on user astrological information. The team of two dozen employees from Co-Star has joined Midjourney as part of the acquisition.
This move suggests Midjourney is casting a wide net for its product offerings, potentially leveraging Co-Star's team experience in building consumer apps. Midjourney, which currently operates largely through a Discord server, may be looking to develop its own stand-alone app.
This acquisition indicates Midjourney's strategic diversification beyond its core AI image and video generation. For businesses, it highlights a trend of AI companies exploring varied consumer application markets and potentially leveraging acquired teams for new product development.
