Google Loses AI Talent to Anthropic
Two AI researchers reportedly left Google for Anthropic, following other departures.

Top AI researchers Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel are reportedly leaving Google for Anthropic. According to a report, Adler and Pritzel were involved in the development of Google's Gemini model. This follows other recent departures of AI talent from Google.
Previously, AI researcher Noam Shazeer left Google for OpenAI. Shazeer had been with Google since 2000, with a three-year period building a chatbot startup. Additionally, John Jumper, a Google DeepMind director, also departed for Anthropic. Jumper, alongside DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, received the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work on AlphaFold.
This trend of AI talent leaving Google for rivals like Anthropic and OpenAI is noted across multiple outlets. The lure of pre-IPO equity is cited as a strong factor, as OpenAI and Anthropic are preparing to go public, offering an opportunity to recruit top AI talent.
