Google Launches 'Universal' Gemini AI Agent for Workplace
Google launched a "universal" Gemini AI agent for workplace tasks, available within the Gemini Enterprise app.
"Google's new Gemini agent is a big move for enterprise AI. Get ready for one AI to rule all your work apps."
Google has introduced a "universal" Gemini AI agent designed to operate across various applications and devices in the background. Announced during the Gemini at Work event on Thursday, this tool will be accessible via the Gemini Enterprise app, enabling users to interact with the agent and assign tasks from a unified interface.
This Gemini agent can function within Workspace applications such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar. Users can also engage with it from mobile devices, desktop computers, the web, and third-party platforms like Slack or Microsoft 365. Operating in the cloud, Gemini will maintain consistent context across all connected devices. It can also collaborate with job-specific sub-agents and act as a "coworker agent" with a distinct identity and email address. The agent will automatically execute tasks using the most suitable AI model.
Currently, the Gemini agent is in private preview for enterprise customers. This launch follows Google's introduction of its consumer-facing Gemini Spark agent in May, which provides subscribers with task performance capabilities across Workspace and the web through a separate interface within the Gemini app. Alphabet shares reportedly rose as Google expanded Gemini into enterprise AI.
This universal AI agent aims to streamline workplace productivity by centralizing task management across diverse platforms. For businesses, it signifies a potential shift towards more integrated and automated workflows, reducing the need for manual context switching between applications.
