Figma Unveils AI-Powered Design and Coding Updates
Figma introduced new code layers, animation support, and AI features in a recent update.
"Figma just dropped a game-changer! AI, code layers, and animations all in one? Designers, get ready to build faster and wilder than ever."
Figma has launched a significant update, adding a new code layer, support for motion and shaders, and the capability to create custom AI-powered plug-ins. These announcements were made at the company's annual Config conference, aiming to assist creatives in pushing ideas and automating tasks. The update includes a reimagined canvas optimized for full-stack development.
The new code layers are integrated directly into the collaborative canvas, enabling teams to clone repositories and extract flows from code to design layers for testing. Figma now also supports animations, transitions, and 3D transforms, allowing designers to integrate these elements directly within the platform. Additionally, AI can be used to create assets and add shader effects and fills.
Figma is also enhancing its AI assistant with new skills, allowing users to write text prompts for repeatable AI agent skills. The platform will also integrate with tools like Notion, Granola, Excel, and GitHub, and enable users to create custom plug-ins, such as layout generators or vector path tracers, using prompts.
This update streamlines the design-to-code workflow, potentially reducing development cycles and improving collaboration between designers, product managers, and engineers. The enhanced AI features offer new avenues for automation and creative exploration, which can lead to more efficient product development and innovation.
