Anthropic Files IPO, Reveals Billions in Revenue, AI Risks
Anthropic has officially filed for an IPO, revealing soaring revenue, mounting losses, and a unique governance structure.
"Anthropic's IPO is wild! Billions in revenue but massive losses, and founders keeping control? Talk about a high-risk, high-reward bet on AI's future."
Anthropic has officially filed for its initial public offering (IPO) under the ticker “ANT,” following weeks of speculation. The filing reveals the company recorded $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, a significant increase from $1.2 billion in the same period last year. Despite this revenue growth, Anthropic reported an operating loss of $693 million, an improvement from $2.1 billion in operating losses during the first half of 2025. However, the company's net loss reached $80.7 billion, largely due to noncash accounting adjustments related to convertible debt.
The S-1 prospectus also provides insight into Anthropic's enterprise business, with over 11,900 customers spending $100,000 or more annually, including 1,900 customers spending over $1 million, and approximately 250 customers spending $10 million or more by the end of September. A controversial governance structure will allow Anthropic’s seven co-founders to maintain control post-IPO, with the “Founder LLC” collectively holding 50.1% of shareholder voting power. This structure, designed to preserve the company’s AI safety mission, means public shareholders will have limited practical control.
This public debut is one of the most closely watched in modern U.S. history, as Anthropic acknowledges that its technology poses “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.” The company has not yet disclosed its fundraising goals or proposed share price. The IPO filing offers investors a detailed look into Anthropic’s financials, risk factors, and its perspective on the future of AI.
This IPO highlights the significant financial activity and inherent risks within the AI sector. Business owners and executives should note the rapid revenue growth alongside substantial losses, indicating the high-stakes nature of AI development. The unique governance structure also sets a precedent for founder control in high-tech public offerings.
