Amazon has blocked Meta's Muse AI agent from shopping on Amazon.com, citing Conditions of Use violations.

Amazon has blocked Meta’s Muse AI agent from shopping on its platform, according to reports from multiple outlets including The Verge and GeekWire. Muse users began seeing a popup message on Sunday stating that "continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use." This action marks a new standoff over agentic shopping.

Amazon expressed privacy and security concerns, noting that Muse failed to identify itself when browsing and seemingly captured customer credentials. An unnamed Amazon spokesperson stated that third-party applications making purchases on behalf of customers should operate openly and respect service provider decisions. Meta reportedly did not notify Amazon about Muse accessing its store. When Muse launched earlier this month, Meta claimed it could not see secure login details or card payment information, though some privacy concerns have since emerged regarding its ability to see user message contents.

This move by Amazon is part of a broader effort to counter rival agentic AI services and encourage direct customer shopping. Amazon previously sued Perplexity in November last year over its Comet shopping experience, a case where a judge sided with Perplexity in August. Additionally, Amazon has made confirmation emails sparser since July, omitting specific item names and product images to limit data mining by external AI services.
