Amazon AI Fights Scams, Verifies Messages
Amazon's AI assistant, Alexa for Shopping, can now verify if messages are legitimate or scams.

Amazon has introduced a new scam-detection feature within its Alexa for Shopping AI service. This update allows customers to use the AI to determine the authenticity of suspicious emails, text messages, or phone calls claiming to be from Amazon. The company stated that its AI can "definitively" confirm if a communication originated from its systems by analyzing sender information, content, timing, and message metadata.
This new capability aims to combat impersonation scams, which include fake order confirmations, Prime membership renewal alerts, account suspension warnings, package delivery notifications, and job scams. Amazon previously launched verify@amazon.com for forwarding suspicious messages and offers an online form for similar assistance. The company noted that approximately 360,000 customers annually contact customer service regarding message authenticity.
The addition of this feature reflects Amazon's evolving product strategy for Alexa, focusing on shopping-related assistance and proactive help. Alexa for Shopping is accessible via the Amazon website and mobile app. The company expects the system to improve its scam detection as more suspicious messages are reported by customers.
