The round was led by Natural Capital, with participation from Amazon and AMD Ventures, among others. Separately, an Israeli AI company named Dream tripled its value to $3 billion in a funding round, and also raised $260 million while revealing its Sovereign AI for Nations.
World models are identified as a significant advancement in AI beyond large language models, focusing on gathering and simulating physical world data with accurate physics. Odyssey's approach involves collecting data using cameras, a method reminiscent of Google Earth. The company, founded in 2023 by CEO Oliver Cameron and CTO Jeff Hawke, offers world models for various applications, including video-game creation and robotics. Amazon's backing establishes AWS as Odyssey's preferred cloud provider, with plans to optimize models for AWS’s Trainium chips.
To date, Odyssey has accumulated $337 million in total funding. The company's investor list includes angel investors such as Jeff Dean, Elad Gil, Garry Tan, Guillermo Rauch, and Cruise founder Kyle Vogt.
