AI Agent Hacks Home Network, Reveals Vulnerabilities

An individual allowed an AI agent, specifically a version of Z.ai’s GLM 5.3 model from Abliteration AI, to access their home network. After removing the model's safety guardrails, the AI agent identified vulnerabilities in various household devices and successfully hacked into a PC. This experiment aimed to explore the cybersecurity capabilities of advanced AI models and understand potential threats.
The experiment utilized an open-source model with its internal parameters modified to remove typical restrictions, a process known as abliteration. This practice is used by academic researchers to understand AI and by cybersecurity firms to probe systems for vulnerabilities. Abliteration AI offers access to such de-aligned models, with CEO Devon suggesting this availability can aid in defense against malicious actors by mimicking hacker behavior.
After installing a software harness called CyberStrike, the abliterated GLM-5.3 model quickly cataloged vulnerabilities across multiple hardware systems on the network. The individual noted that while the experiment revealed the potential for AI hacking, it also provided insights into making systems more secure, suggesting that using AI for defense could be a solution to AI-driven threats.
This research highlights the growing cybersecurity capabilities of AI, demonstrating its potential to identify and exploit system vulnerabilities.
